You know the problem, the people, and what a good result should feel like. PM Pet makes it easier to stay involved as Codex turns that judgment into a working project.

01 / Direction
See completed steps, current work, and what comes next. Fold the panel into a small row of dots when you want a quieter desktop.
Progress comes from Codex’s reported milestones. Activity alone does not count as a finished step.
02 / Judgment
A yellow lantern brings a consequential decision into view. Red means required information. Double-click the owl to return to the exact Codex conversation.
Questions stay in their original conversation or input window. The Pet is a reminder, not another inbox.

03 / A little company
The owl reads during work and casts a little spell when a reported step finishes. Chicks appear with child agents. Enable up to five independently colored Pets—one for each conversation.
04 / Room to keep building
Optional pills show the account quota windows Codex actually provides, including weekly-only accounts. Hide them when you want less on screen; restore them from the menu.

PM Pet builds locally from source. Bring your Codex Desktop setup and a little comfort with the terminal.
macOS 13+ is the deployment target. Tested on macOS 26.6.2 with Apple silicon; earlier releases and Intel are not yet verified. There is no signed, notarized app download yet.
Full installation guideYou’ll need Codex Desktop with local conversations, Python 3.9+, Git, and Apple’s command-line developer tools.
If the developer tools are missing, run xcode-select --install first.

Open the task you want to co-build in and send the prompt below. If the skill is not listed yet, open a new task.
Use $pm-pet to enable a Pet for this conversation, named “My build”. Keep its roadmap updated as we work. Before building, ask me about any unresolved choice that would materially change the product, experience, time, or cost. Wait for my answer at those points, then review the plan and continue.
The first enable builds and opens the app. Click the owl to show its roadmap; double-click to return to the conversation. Drag it wherever it feels at home.

Before you invite it in
Codex does the work. PM Pet shows the roadmap reported by the owning agent and reminds you when human input is needed. It currently connects to local Codex Desktop conversations. Claude Code, Hermes, and Pi are not connected yet.
The included skill instructs Codex to stop this build’s work at consequential questions and wait for your reply. Pet maintains the question and review state, but it does not forcibly suspend every running agent or tool. The feedback guide explains the cooperative workflow and optional tool guard.
It is remaining, shared account quota from Codex’s recorded snapshot. The “From chat” timestamp shows when it was observed. A five-hour window appears only if the account supplies one. Only the first newly enabled Pet shows quota by default; you can enable other copies or restore hidden quota from the menu. No extra model call calculates this display.
The local bridge reads the conversations you explicitly bind and keeps Pet state in the checkout’s ignored .pm-pet/runtime/ folder. It does not upload those records or copy answer values into Pet state. Question text, conversation IDs, and timestamps remain local data; keep that folder out of public issue attachments.
Yes. Click the owl to hide its panel, or use its menu to resize it, restore quota, or disable that Pet. The app supports 75%–150% size presets and respects reduced motion and reduced transparency. In the owning Codex task, ~/.local/bin/pm-pet disable stops tracking that conversation. ~/.local/bin/pm-pet quit closes the app and bridge.
Run ~/.local/bin/pm-pet uninstall to remove owned installation files. The checkout and local data are preserved by default. Disabling or removing Pet does not answer questions or stop Codex’s work. See removal options for details.
This is a source preview. Quit Pet before pulling changes and rebuilding; follow the update instructions for the full sequence. There is no auto-updater, notarized binary, or iOS app. Local Codex transcript formats can change, and system password prompts are not detected automatically. The current limits are documented in the repository.
